Cuyahoga County Judge Rules that Domestic Violence Laws Apply Only to the Married

Stating that he found Ohio's Domestic Violence statute (ORC 2929.25) to be incompatible with the recent marriage amendment to the Ohio Constitution, Judge Stuart Friedman stated that a man who had assaulted his live-in girlfriend could not be prosecuted under the law. Instead, the Judge reduced the charge to assault, a first-degree misdemeanor. Expect this to reach the Supreme Court of Ohio before it's all over.
